It is in this solemn day, all the post
resurrection celebrations end. In the past, the Corpus Domini
used to last nine days. On the first day, the “Ostia
Consacrata”, after mass, was paraded around the village
preceded by a multitude of"chierichetti" and children
wearing the white dress typical of the Holy Communion. Confrati
from the various Confraternities and the local band followed.
The following eight days were characterised by religious
processions that unfolded along the main streets, accompanied
by a carpet of petals of roses thrown by the balconies decorated
with fine sheets and silk throws all along the way.The chanting
and the excitement were often halted in order to pray before
the altar arranged along the way. The last day, the Friday
following the main event, was dedicated to the Sacro Cuore
and it ended with an evening parade and the sermon in the
Chiesa Madre. Nowadays, the ritual has been slightly transformed,
however it is still intensely felt by the population. |
